Wifi RFID Chip Released by G2

G2 Microsystems Inc. has launched its RFID chip for tags that can be read by Wifi access points. These RFID chips eliminate the need for a network of readers. Users will be able monitor the condition of their tagged products as well as their location throughout the supply chain.

According to G2, these chips have great cost cutting benefits for users, reducing total cost of ownership by as much as 75%. Companies will be able to utilize Wifi access points instead of spending significant amounts of money on pilot RFID projects utilizing RFID infrastructure.

According to Ben Gibson, director of product and technology marketing at Cisco Wireless Networking Business Unit:

We believe that G2 Microsystems highly integrated solution will enable lower cost asset tags and that the targeted battery life will open up new markets.
