RFID tag suggested for NHS
The NHS can save millions of pounds every year with the use of RFID and bar codes. This has been stated by the Minister of Health, Lord Hunt. The automated identification of patients is already being made use of at the Birmingham ear, nose and throat department. The use of the technology will help to reduce an apprroximately £2bn-worth of extra bed days, that are lost as a result of wrongly identification of patients.
According to health minister Lord Hunt:
Patient safety is my top priority and this document sets out a clear case for the use of auto-identification and data capture technology to save lives and improve efficiency. We want to be able to uniquely identify the patient so we know we are giving the right treatment.
