RFID to help Medical Company for Authentication
Iris Diagnostic is looking at the use of RFID to check the authenticity of the reagents being used in its urinalysis machines. The purpose is to prevent the usage of any counterfeit reagent. The company will integrate its iQ200 Automated Urinalysis System with the RFID system. The reason for checking counterfeit reagents becomes important is that a counterfeit reagent will give rise to serious safety and financial concerns
According to Maria Cardenas, an electronic engineer with Iris:
The company decided to develop the authentication system not in response to a past problem with counterfeit Lamina, but rather to keep such a problem from ever occurring. It has happened to other providers of urinalysis systems, but not Iris, so this is a preventative move.
